Are you considering joining us for a service?
At Joy, we do things a little bit different than most places. Here are a few "unexpected" things to expect if you choose to join us for a service.
We don't use any pews. (We never had any). We use tables and chairs. It's easier to take notes on a table anyway and much easier to eat and set your coffee on.
We meet on Saturday evenings. That's mainly because that's how we got started so that some of the initial attenders could help out without missing their Sunday service. Nowadays, that's just how we decided to keep it.
You don't have to dress up in your "Sunday clothes." Sure, if you want to, we don't have any problem with that, but don't feel like you need to when you come to worship. Jesus never turned anyone away. Instead, he focused on what's most important - your heart and your life - not how you're dressed. His focus is our focus too.
We probably won't be using a piano or an organ during the service. We have a piano and a keyboard, but we've never really had anyone who could play regularly. We'd love to hear them played and would welcome you playing if you wanted to, but most of our musicians are simply talented with other instruments. If you join us, you'll likely hear a guitar, bass, drums, and maybe even a tambourine during the singing portion of the service. From week-to-week though, musicians and vocalists may change. We also like to blend some traditional hymns with some contemporary worship music. Mostly, we just want to make a JOYful noise to the God we are worshipping!
We have a fellowship break after our service - and then classtime. Have you ever been to a church where it felt like once the worship service was over that everyone was just racing to see who could get out the doors first? Sure, we've probably all had one of those experiences. At Joy, we take the time to spend a little time catching up with each other in fellowship (and even better, it's while you're eating). So grab some snacks and a cup of coffee from our coffee bar, and spend some time just talking. After that, get a refill, grab a pen and a Bible, and join us in our Bible study class where we can spend some more in-depth time learning from and discussing the Scriptures.
